Louisa and John

High School, College, or Graduate School

I’ve taught college English for twenty years and directed a major writing center at the University of Washington in Seattle for five. Together, these experiences have taught me that each writer works in their own unique way to compose and communicate thoughts. A good tutor is open to learning the writer’s current methods and adjusting their specific instructions or suggestions to build off what’s already working.

In essence,

writing is a conversation in which the writer anticipates questions or potential areas of confusion for the reader and tries to address them, providing a smooth path from each idea to the next. Sometimes the best way to get essay help is to actually have a conversation with a truly honest or “transparent” reader, one who can identify and articulate the questions or areas of confusion left open by the text.  As a composition tutor for students, this is my primary method of bringing a text alive for a student.
